Murg lakes

Three mountain lake pearls in eastern Switzerland

The three Murg lakes are nestled in a wild and romantic valley basin. The lower Murgsee lies in the middle of a protected Swiss stone pine reserve, the scenery is reminiscent of the wilderness of Canada. Between the middle and upper Murgsee is the Berggasthaus Murgsee, which welcomes hikers and fishermen alike. The Murgsee trout are known for their pink, salmon-like flesh.

The shortest, best and easiest route to Murgsee is via Murg on Lake Walen, on the Zurich - Chur line, either by car or by Murg Valley bus (book bus trips with Taxi Walensee, tel. 079 735 30 00) to the Mornen parking lot (P2) at approx. 1200 m above sea level. The approach via Murg is well signposted. From Mornen, an approx. 1.5 m wide natural gravel path leads directly to the Murgsee mountain restaurant at 1825 m above sea level. The hike takes approx. 1.5 to 2 hours.

The Murgsee - Mürtschen area circular hike is particularly recommended, starting from the Merlen parking lot (P1) in the Murg Valley. The hiking trails are well marked and are also suitable for hikers with little experience.
